Dear Winona ISD Parents and Guardians,
As we continue our commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy learning environment for all students, we want to remind families of the Texas Education Agency (TEA) guidelines regarding student illness. Following these protocols will help prevent the spread of sickness and ensure that our students and staff stay as healthy as possible.
Please remember the following guidelines when determining whether your child should attend school:
Fever: Students must be fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication before returning to school. A fever is considered a temperature of 100.0°F or higher.
Vomiting or Diarrhea: Students should remain home for at least 24 hours after their last episode.
Other Contagious Illnesses: If your child has been diagnosed with a contagious illness (such as flu or strep throat), please follow your healthcare provider’s recommendations and TEA guidelines before returning to school.
In addition to these protocols, we encourage students to practice good hygiene habits, including:
Washing hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
Using hand sanitizer when soap and water are not available
Covering coughs and sneezes with a tissue or their elbow
Avoiding touching their face, especially their eyes, nose, and mouth
To further support a healthy school environment, Winona ISD is taking extra measures to clean and sanitize our campuses. Our custodial teams are conducting frequent cleanings of high-touch surfaces, including doorknobs, desks, and shared spaces, to help reduce the spread of germs.
If your child becomes ill at school, we will contact you to pick them up as soon as possible. Please ensure that the school has updated emergency contact information on file.
Your partnership is essential in keeping our schools safe and ensuring that students remain healthy and ready to learn. Thank you for your support in following these important health protocols.
If you have any questions, please contact your child’s campus.
Sincerely,
Damenion Miller, M.Ed.
