Hello! My name is Dana Smith, and I am the School Counselor at Winona Elementary! I have served Winona ISD previously as a middle school ELAR teacher and grew to love this community. I am extremely excited to be back at Winona and I am looking forward to all this school year will bring.
As counselor, I have the privilege to work with every single student. My primary responsibility is to promote the academic, personal, and social development of all students. I believe by implementing our Guidance Curriculum which consists of character development, along with social and emotional learning will develop the whole child. To achieve this development I will work with students at the classroom level, small groups, as well as short-term individual counseling. I will also meet with parents, teachers, staff and consult with community organizations to benefit and meet the needs of all Winona students.
I would like the students here to think of my office as a warm and friendly place, where they are always welcome- a safe haven – a place where they can get help if they feel confused or worried.
I am here for all students and want to ensure that your child has a productive and positive school year. If I can support your child in any way, please don’t hesitate to contact me. Any student can request to meet with me or they can be referred by a teacher, administrator, or parent.
Confidentiality
Please note that all information discussed is confidential between me and your child, unless they are planning on hurting themselves, hurting someone else or someone is hurting them.
